Background & Challenges

IntraSpace has spent over 20 years delivering tailored storage and workspace solutions for government, healthcare, and educational institutions. With an increasing number of designers using BIM to streamline project delivery workflows, IntraSpace saw an opportunity to provide digital assets that made specifying their products easier and more efficient.

However, they faced several challenges:

  1. Growing Demand for Revit Content
Specifiers frequently requested Revit content to integrate IntraSpace’s products into their BIM models. In the absence of high-quality Revit families, designers resorted to creating their own representations. This was very time-consuming for designers and prone to error in their interpretation of the products offered by IntraSpace.
  2. Previous BIM Content Creation Attempt Did Not Meet Client Expectations
IntraSpace previously engaged another partner to develop a Revit library, but the quality of the families did not meet the expectations of IntraSpace’s customers. The Revit families didn’t deliver the outputs required by designers and were sub-optimal to use in large Revit project models such as hospitals and large education facilities; two of IntraSpace’s primary project typologies. This limited the Revit library’s adoption and effectiveness.
  3. Complexity of Parametric Revit families for Furniture & Storage Systems
Revit families for products like lockers, furniture systems, shelving, and medical storage solutions often require extensive customisation to suit individual project requirements. Developing flexible Revit families that incorporated extensive parametric functionality, whilst being optimised for performance in a large Revit project model, presented a significant technical challenge.
  4. BIM Content Delivery & Specifier Engagement
Beyond creating a high-quality BIM library, IntraSpace also faced the challenge of how to effectively host, manage, and promote their BIM content to specifiers. While IntraSpace was a growing business and had a great reputation among existing clientele, they sought to further grow their brand recognition and increase awareness among specifiers working on commercial and healthcare projects. Additionally, they needed a BIM content management solution that would make it easy for designers to find and download their BIM content. IntraSpace’s website was not set up to manage BIM content in a way that was familiar to specifiers, and they wanted to avoid a cumbersome, resource-heavy process of maintaining their library internally.

Managing Director, IntraSpace: “Providing designers with high-quality Revit content was a priority for us. Our previous attempt didn’t deliver the usability specifiers needed, so we knew we had to work with an expert with a strong reputation for creating Revit content, and had well-established relationships within the specifier community. Feedback we obtained from some prominent design firms made it clear  IGS was the right choice to help us not only build our Revit library but to ensure it reached the right audience.”

Solution

To address these challenges, IGS Group developed a high-quality Revit content library tailored to the needs of specifiers, streamlining the design and specification process for IntraSpace’s storage and furniture solutions.

1. Comprehensive Revit Library Creation

IGS created a Revit-based BIM library, the most suitable format for IntraSpace’s target audience of commercial project designers. The Revit library includes a broad range of products from several of IntraSpace’s key product categories, including:

  • Library Furniture
  • Lockers & Shelving
  • Medical Storage
  • Office Furniture

Notable features of the library include:

  • Parametric Functionality – Revit families were built with advanced parametric controls, allowing designers to customise product dimensions, configurations, and finishes to suit specific project needs within the constraints of IntraSpace’s product offering.
  • AusHFG Compliance – Healthcare-related Revit families incorporates AusHFG classifications, ensuring specifiers can confidently use and manage the families in hospital and aged care projects.
  • Physical-Based Rendering (PBR) Materials Library – High-quality material assets utilised in the library enhance visual accuracy in renders and ensure consistency across various rendering platforms and applications.
  • Flexible Download Options – IntraSpace Revit content is available as a Virtual Showroom, category-based Collections, or Individual Families in multiple versions of Revit, allowing specifiers to access the assets in a way that suits their preferred Revit content download and management workflows.

Managing Director, IntraSpace: “The feedback we’ve received from specifiers about our Revit library has been extremely positive. Most commonly we hear our our library of Revit families saves designers a lot of time when designing their projects, and they appreciate our investment in making them available. Making our products are so easy to integrate into Revit projects means we are being specified more frequently.

2. BIMcontent.com Partnership

IntraSpace was a BIMcontent.com ‘Foundation Partner’, with their library available to users upon launch of the platform. Being a BIMcontent.com partner ensured their BIM content was widely accessible, efficiently managed, and continuously promoted to a substantial, fast-growing community of specifiers.

BIMcontent.com partnership has delivered several benefits to IntraSpace:

  • BIM Content Syndication – As the IntraSpace Revit library evolves over time, updates are reflected instantly across BIMcontent.com, the IntraSpace website, and the BIMcontent.com Revit Plug-in. This ensures their Revit library reaches a wider audience and that designers always have immediate access the most up-to-date content, wherever they access it from.
  • Live Analytics & Engagement Insights – The ability to track downloads and user engagement has provided IntraSpace with valuable insights, helping them quantify the success of their BIM strategy.
  • Specifier Feedback & Continuous Improvement – Feedback from designers using their Revit library has led to ongoing updates and refinements, ensuring the content remains useful, relevant and a preferred resource of project design assets among specifiers.
  • Marketing Support – BIMcontent.com’s marketing support activities have allowed IntraSpace to reach a growing audience of specifiers through marketing content creation, campaigns and communications activities.

Managing Director, IntraSpace: “The reach we’ve gained through BIMcontent.com has been substantial. The platform not only helps us manage and promote our BIM content efficiently but also gives us quantifiable insights that help us evolve our BIM strategy based on engagement data and real user feedback.”

3. Designer Support Resources

To promote the features and benefits of the IntraSpace Revit library and to improve library adoption, IGS developed a Revit Library Overview Video and a suite of Marketing Support materials.

  • Revit Library Overview Video – A visually engaging introduction to the library, demonstrating key features, showcasing product ranges, and providing tips on integrating the content into projects.
  • Marketing Collateral – A comprehensive suite of written copy and graphics that can be utilised in various marketing and communications activities to promote the access and utilisation of IntraSpace’s BIM library to specifiers. These assets have also been valuable for IntraSpace’s sales and marketing teams, enabling them to effectively communicate their BIM library’s features and benefits without in-depth technical knowledge.

Managing Director, IntraSpace: “The overview video and marketing support activities have been a key part of our BIM content strategy. As a manufacturer we don’t have the technical expertise in BIM to create these assets. Having IGS create them for us means specifiers can quickly understand the value of our BIM library. It’s also made it easier for our sales team to explain the benefits to specifiers who may not be familiar with our BIM content library.”

Outcomes

IntraSpace’s BIM initiative has provided them with a variety of benefits across commercial, strategic and business operations domains. These include:

  1. Increased Specification & Project Integration
The usability and configurability of their BIM library has made IntraSpace’s products easier to specify, leading to increased integration in projects, specifications and most importantly, sales.
  2. Expanded Market Reach
Through their BIMcontent.com partnership, IntraSpace has increased its brand awareness and reputation within the commercial project design space.
